This cel shows Carmilla’s castle as it collapses at the end of the movie. It’s so pretty its really too bad that the scan can’t do it justice. I love the monochrome colors and the minute details. This cel is very deceptive in that it is much more complicated than it initially appears. Most of the image is painted on the background. The B layer consists of the dust clouds coming off the buildings that are further away. The buildings in the foregound are done in the same paints as the background and are on an unmarked layer (making this a book cel). The A layer is made up of the dust and debris coming off of these closer buildings. All the lines on the dust clouds are hand painted.
