I was a little hesitant to spend much money on a reproduction cel, but I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived. The lines are hand inked and the detail is excellent. There is only one cel layer in this set up. The colors they used for the frame and the background look very good together. The edges of the background are quite a bit longer (top to bottom) than the width. This forced the matting to also be a bit larger on the top and bottom than on the sides. I can only suppose that this is just a matter of style, since I seems to work okay. It just would not be my first choice as far as overall composition goes. They also made it so that it can be removed from the frame very easily and smoothly.

With all that attention and care, I do not understand why they also made a number of mistakes with the rest of the job. They used cardboard in back of the background paper, and there was no spacers between the cardboard, background paper and cel. This really increases the risk for damage over time. Maybe they used some kind of acid-free cardboard. Still, the lack of spacers was a minor problem since the cel has started to lightly stick to the paper background. Fortunately, they were easily separated with no damage that I can see. I just hate to think that all the beautiful work they did painting this cel would have been damaged if I had left things the way there were for any longer. Due its size, I will have to frame this cel and background. The cel itself would fit in my largest cel book, but the background is too long. The frame and matt will be kept with my other extra cel stuff (extra long sketches, blank acetate sheets, and other matts and frames). That way if I ever decide to sell, I will still have all the original parts.
