Unknown background

This was a bit of an impulse buy. I used to ride dressage and train horses for English pleasure. I love the look of the horse. I am not sure what to make of the background. I think it is a copy made on high quality paper. The image on the background fades away underneath the cel image so it seems like they were designed for each other. I have no idea what the hanken was used for.
